Aubusson tapestry, verdure with coat of arms, 18th century.
Wool and silk tapestry. This ancient weaving offers us a window onto a luxuriant natural world. The landscape is divided into several harmoniously successive planes, the first of which features a meandering stretch of water that draws the eye into the following planes, taking us through a dense forest and giving us a glimpse of fortifications high up in the distance.
Animals enliven the composition: a cane followed by two ducklings and a bird perched in one of the trees on the right.
This tapestry is enriched by an original border of foliage, punctuated with flowers and decorated with moving scroll motifs at each corner. The special feature of this greenery is the original border with a coat of arms that extends beyond the frame into the central field, reinforcing the impression of relief. The coat of arms consists of two oval shields joined together and surmounted by a count’s crown. The shield on the left is adorned with a chevron accompanied by three bezants,
