Aristoloche, Southern Netherlands circa 1530.
-5 warp threads per cm
-Fragment showing large lanceolate leaves, bindweed and vine tendrils coiling on the stems. Two birds can also be seen pecking at bunches of grapes.
The type of tapestry from which this fragment comes predates the rise of cabbage-leaf tapestry.
The weaving can be attributed to a Flemish workshop (Enghien, Oudenaarde or Grammont). These production centres, which were very close geographically, knew and influenced each other and responded to the same fashions and demands.
-Dimensions: Height: 117 cm Width: 47 cm
-Good condition. Old restorations are to be noted, one of the leaves is slightly stained.
-This tapestry is lined and can be easily fixed with hooks.
